From M.Sc. Scholar to Political Leader Satish Kumar Returns to Raghopur

In the upcoming 2025 elections, Satish Kumar, a Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate, is set to challenge Tejashwi Yadav of the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) in the Raghopur constituency. This marks a significant moment for Kumar, who aims to secure a victory after three unsuccessful attempts against Yadav, the current incumbent and Leader of the Opposition in the Bihar Assembly. If successful, Kumar’s win could underscore the BJP’s organizational strength in the region and enhance his influence in state administrative matters.

Background of Satish Kumar

Satish Kumar Yadav, commonly referred to as Satish Raj, was born on February 9, 1966, in Rampur Shyamchand village, located in the Vaishali district of Bihar. His father, Shyam Narayan Yadav, was a farmer. Kumar pursued higher education, earning his Master of Science (M.Sc.) degree from Magadh University, concluding his studies in 1992.

Political Journey

Kumar’s political career began with the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD). However, he later transitioned to the Janata Dal (United) (JD(U)). In 2010, he won a seat in the Bihar Legislative Assembly from Raghopur, defeating the former Chief Minister Rabri Devi. Following an alliance between JD(U) and RJD in 2015, the Raghopur seat was allocated to RJD, leading to Tejashwi Yadav’s victory in successive elections.

After joining the BJP, Kumar contested the 2020 legislative elections but lost to Yadav by a margin of 22,733 votes. The presence of the Lok Janshakti Party (LJP) candidate during that election contributed to a split in the Rajput votes, which adversely affected his campaign. As he prepares for the 2025 elections, Kumar is once again focused on unseating Yadav from Raghopur.
