Oilers Shake Up Roster: Troy Stecher on Waivers, Ike Howard Loaned to AHL
The Edmonton Oilers have made significant roster moves to prepare for the return of forward Zach Hyman. The team has placed defenceman Troy Stecher on waivers and loaned Ike Howard to the AHL’s Bakersfield Condors.
Key Roster Changes
These announcements came on Friday, just one day before Hyman’s scheduled return against the Carolina Hurricanes on Saturday. Hyman, who is 33 years old, has been sidelined since May 27 following a wrist injury sustained in Game 4 of the Western Conference Final against the Dallas Stars.
Hyman’s Recovery
During the summer, Hyman underwent surgery to repair fractured and damaged ligaments in his wrist. He started the 2025-26 season on long-term injury reserve due to his recovery process.
Ike Howard Loaned to AHL
- Ike Howard heads to the AHL after contributing two goals and one assist in 17 games with the Oilers this season.
- Howard was awarded the Hobey Baker Award and was traded to Edmonton from the Tampa Bay Lightning during the off-season.
- In the trade, Edmonton sent fellow prospect Sam O’Reilly to Tampa Bay.
Troy Stecher Waived
Troy Stecher was placed on waivers after appearing in only six games for the Oilers this season, with his last game played on October 30 against the New York Rangers.
Fans can catch Hyman and the Oilers in action against the Hurricanes on Saturday night. The game will be broadcast on Sportsnet and Sportsnet+, starting at 7 p.m. ET / 5 p.m. MT.
