Ryanair Shifts to Digital Only Boarding Passes Starting This Week

The low-cost airline Ryanair is transitioning to a completely digital boarding pass system, effective November 12, 2025. This change stipulates that all passengers must check in online and generate their boarding passes via the myRyanair app. The airline will no longer accept printed boarding passes starting on this date.

Ryanair’s Shift to Digital Boarding Passes

The decision to move to digital-only boarding passes was made after Ryanair found that nearly 80% of its passengers were already using this option. The rollout, initially scheduled for November 3, was postponed to accommodate peak travel times, particularly around the UK schools’ mid-term break. The change aligns with trends in other industries, such as concerts and sporting events, which have successfully adopted digital ticketing.

Benefits of the New System

Ryanair’s Chief Marketing Officer, Dara Brady, emphasized that this shift aims to provide a faster, smarter, and more environmentally friendly travel experience. The myRyanair app offers various features, including:

  • Ordering food and drinks for priority service
  • Real-time status updates on boarding, gates, and delays
  • Storage for travel documents

Support for Passengers Without Access to Smartphones

Despite the digital shift, concerns have been raised regarding passengers who may not have smartphones. Ryanair has addressed these issues by allowing travelers to obtain a paper boarding pass at check-in counters at the airport, free of charge. This provision remains applicable as long as passengers have checked in online beforehand.

Additionally, for flights departing from Morocco, paper boarding passes are still mandatory as per government regulations. The airline encourages passengers to utilize the online check-in feature to ensure they can easily obtain their boarding passes, regardless of whether they opt for digital or paper formats.
