Hugh Hughie Cooney, a resident of Monaghan Town, has passed away. He died on Saturday, November 15, surrounded by his family at Cavan General Hospital.
Hugh Cooney’s Family and Legacy
Hughie was predeceased by his parents, Frank and Sarah, as well as his sister-in-law Bridget and brothers-in-law Mick and Jim. He leaves behind a loving family, including:
- Sisters: Mary, Anna (married to John Mc Kenna), Theresa, Philomena (married to Maurice Smyth), Alice, Briege (married to Ronan Callan), and Pauline (married to Ben Rooney).
- Brothers: Willie, Johnny (married to Elizabeth), Bernie (married to Winnie), Christy (married to Isobel), and Packie (married to Joanne).
- Nieces, nephews, extended family, and many friends who cherished him.
Funeral Arrangements
Hughie will be reposed at Clerkins Funeral Home in Milltown, Monaghan (H18YF22) on Monday, November 17, starting from 5:00 PM. The evening will conclude with prayers at 8:00 PM.
On Tuesday, November 18, his funeral procession will proceed to St. Macartan’s Cathedral for a Funeral Mass at 11:00 AM. Following the service, he will be laid to rest at Laturcan Cemetery.

The Funeral Mass will be live-streamed, providing an opportunity for friends and family unable to attend to participate virtually.
The family home will remain private throughout this time, allowing the family to honor and remember Hughie peacefully.
