Rome Honors Interfaith Dialogue with Special Series of Coins Celebrating the Three Monotheistic Religions

Rome has launched a special series of coins celebrating the interfaith dialogue among Christianity, Judaism, and Islam. This initiative focuses on the rich history of coexistence and understanding among these three Abrahamic religions within the city.

Special Commemorative Coins

The new silver coin series, valued at 3 euros, features distinctive designs representing each religion. The series is a collaborative effort involving key religious leaders from the three communities in Rome:

  • Archbishop Vincenzo Paglia
  • Chief Rabbi of Rome Riccardo Di Segni
  • Imam Nader Akkad

Cultural Significance

This coin collection will be officially presented soon. Each coin displays a religious site symbolic of its faith:

  • St. Peter’s Basilica for Christianity
  • The Great Synagogue for Judaism
  • The Great Mosque of Rome for Islam

The reverse side of the coins features a unified design symbolizing the dream of Abraham, encapsulated in a starry sky with three circles converging at a central point—Rome. This imagery highlights the city as a meeting place for diverse cultures and religions.

Inspirational Message

The coins include the inscription “IN ABRAMO TRE FEDI UNA VISIONE,” reflecting the project’s core message of unity in diversity. Rabbi Di Segni emphasized the importance of living together amidst differences in their shared city.

Production Details

The series is minted by the Italian Ministry of Economy and Finance, produced by the Istituto Poligrafico e Zecca dello Stato. The coin designs are crafted by Silvia Ciucci and Monica Ciucci, with striking images created in the Mint’s facilities.

Part of a Broader Collection

This launch is part of the Numismatic Collection of 2025 from the Italian Republic. The initiative not only honors important religious landmarks but also reinforces the value of peaceful coexistence and mutual respect among the three faiths. Rome’s commitment to interfaith dialogue is a testament to its rich cultural heritage.
