Ukrainian Volunteer Nadiya Kalinchenkova Honored with Prestigious Czech Memory of the People Award
Ukrainian volunteer Nadiya Kalinchenkova has been awarded the prestigious Czech “Memory of the People” Prize. This honor recognizes her tireless efforts in aiding the Ukrainian military and internally displaced individuals for over a decade.
Nadiya Kalinchenkova: A Beacon of Hope
Kalinchenkova, a 73-year-old resident of the Donetsk region, has a rich background. Born in Hlukhiv, Sumy region, her family relocated to Donetsk as she grew up. She later graduated from the Kramatorsk Industrial Institute and worked as an engineer.
Her journey into volunteering began in 2014 when she joined the “Kramatorsk Bees.” This group focuses on creating protective nets for the Ukrainian Armed Forces. According to Kalinchenkova, their work embodies positivity and hope.
A Ceremony to Honor Courage
The award ceremony will take place at the National Theatre in Prague and will be attended by Czech President Petr Pavel. This event coincides with the Day of Freedom and Democracy, celebrated on November 17 in the Czech Republic.

Since its inception in 2010, Post Bellum has awarded over 70 individuals, highlighting acts of bravery and resilience. Among recent laureates were:

- 2023: Vasyl Vyrozub – Orthodox priest and military chaplain
- 2022: Myroslav Marynovych – Philosopher and former political prisoner
- 2020: Leonid Dovhovych – Resistance member against Soviet authorities
Each of these honorees has contributed profoundly to the fight for freedom and human rights. Kalinchenkova’s recognition emphasizes her commitment to her country, reflecting the spirit of resilience and hope among volunteers in Ukraine.
