At that time, Shirlie, a former vocalist for Wham!, and her husband, Martin Kemp of Spandau Ballet, were considering a trip to Thailand.

As plans unfolded, young Roman, only nine years old, expressed a desire to visit the Bahamas instead. He was excited about experiencing an iconic water slide that went through shark-infested waters. Shirlie initially aimed for a spiritual journey in Thailand, but Roman’s enthusiasm ultimately swayed the family’s decision.
This choice proved fortuitous. That same year, a catastrophic tsunami struck Thailand, resulting in approximately 200,000 casualties across 14 nations, including Sri Lanka and Indonesia. Shirlie reflected on the situation, emphasizing her gratitude for listening to Roman.
Adventures with Risks
The family’s travels have been filled with perilous moments. On one occasion, Martin described a frightening rally experience in Vietnam. While competing, Shirlie lost control of their Mini, leading to a dramatic overturn in a rice paddy.
