Watch as Mexico’s Fátima Bosch is Crowned Miss Universe 2025 Amidst Pageant Drama

Fátima Bosch, representing Mexico, has been crowned Miss Universe 2025 during a highly publicized event marked by controversy. The 74th edition of the global beauty pageant took place in Bangkok on the morning of November 17, 2023. Bosch, 25, received her crown from Miss Universe 2024, Victoria Kjær Theilvig from Denmark. The official Miss Universe account captured the moment she was crowned, showcasing her emotional response on stage.

Pageant Results

The final placements were as follows:

  • Miss Mexico – Fátima Bosch (Winner)
  • Miss Thailand – First Runner-Up
  • Miss Venezuela – Second Runner-Up
  • Miss Philippines – Third Runner-Up

Controversy Surrounding the Event

The road to Bosch’s victory was fraught with tension. On November 4, during the pageant’s opening day, she was involved in a heated exchange with the director of Miss Thailand, Nawat Itsaragrisil. This incident occurred at a sponsorship event and was livestreamed, quickly going viral. In light of this, Miss Universe president Raul Rocha announced that Itsaragrisil would be prohibited from attending future events.

Despite the announcement, Itsaragrisil made appearances at multiple functions and was acknowledged during the live finale, raising questions about the enforcement of the rules.

Judging Controversy

The controversy intensified just days before the finals when composer Omar Harfouch withdrew as a judge. He alleged that the organization had predetermined the top contestants through a “secret vote,” circumventing the official jury. Harfouch expressed his disillusionment with the process, stating, “It affected trust and credibility.”

In response to his concerns, the Miss Universe Organization issued a statement on November 18, clarifying that a separate selection committee was used for the “Beyond the Crown Program.” This program highlights charitable initiatives undertaken by contestants.

Fátima Bosch’s Advocacy

As the first Miss Mexico winner from Tabasco, Bosch has dedicated her career to sustainable fashion and social causes. She actively supports children battling cancer and collaborates with organizations like Corazón Migrante and Ruta Monarca to aid migrant and environmental initiatives.

This year’s Miss Universe pageant showcased not only beauty but also a range of pressing social issues, reflecting the evolving role of pageantry in contemporary society.
