Shona McGarty made her EastEnders debut in 2008. During her 16-year stint, she became known for her compelling portrayal of Whitney Dean. The character’s journey began as the adopted daughter of Bianca Jackson, played by Patsy Palmer. Whitney Dean’s exit from the series occurred in May 2024 when she left Walford to start anew with her daughter, Dolly.
Reflecting on her departure, Shona noted the difficulty of saying goodbye to a role that defined much of her career. She stated, “It was a really difficult decision… But I had to put on my big girl pants and be quite brave, because life is so short.” Shona expressed excitement for new opportunities, including a recent foray into music, releasing a single titled “Unapologetically Me.”

Shona also had a brief relationship with her EastEnders co-star Max Bowden, which lasted approximately six months and ended in October 2022.
More recently, Shona became engaged to musician David Bracken in 2024 after meeting him in 2023. However, reports suggest they have since decided to remain friends due to differing desires for their futures.
