Celebrated Sports Psychologist Returns to Limerick Senior Hurling Backroom Team

Caroline Currid will rejoin the Limerick senior hurling backroom team ahead of the 2026 season. This decision has been reported by the Irish Examiner and marks a significant return for the renowned sports psychologist.

Significance of Caroline Currid’s Return

Currid has been pivotal in Limerick’s success in hurling. With her involvement, Limerick managed to achieve remarkable victories, including the All-Ireland titles. The team has not won an All-Ireland without her contributions.

Previous Involvement and Achievements

Currid initially worked with Limerick in 2018. That year, the team ended a 45-year wait for the Liam MacCarthy Cup. She then rejoined the setup from 2020 to 2023, during which Limerick secured:

  • Four All-Ireland titles
  • Four Munster championships

In 2023, she stepped away from the team. This past year, Currid helped Maigh Cuilinn win the Galway Senior Football Championship.

Recent Changes in the Limerick Team

During Currid’s absence, Tony Óg Regan, Joe O’Connor, and Paul Kilgannon took on roles as psychologists for the Limerick team. Notably, former Limerick star Seamus Flanagan is transitioning into management. He has taken on a role with the Tipperary club Boherlahan/Dualla.

Flanagan was released from the 2026 Limerick senior hurling squad along with several players, including:

  • Jason Gillane
  • Micheál Houlihan
  • Fergal O’Connor
  • Cian Scully

Upcoming Events for Limerick Hurling

Limerick will face off against Tipperary in a challenge game next month to support the Dillon Quirke Foundation. This match is part of the inaugural Champions Under Lights event, scheduled for Saturday, December 13, at Fethard Town Park at 6 PM.

The team will commence their Co-Op Superstores Munster Senior Hurling League campaign against Clare on January 3. Limerick, the 2023 All-Ireland champions, will also host Cork on January 7 at 7 PM in a venue yet to be confirmed.
