Join the Green Revolution: 73 New BYD Zero-Emission Buses Enhance EBS Dutch Fleet
Public transport operator EBS has announced a significant advancement in its fleet. The company has ordered 73 new electric buses from BYD, marking a strategic move towards enhancing sustainable transportation in Zeeland.
Details of the New BYD Electric Buses
The order includes 64 twelve-metre buses and 9 fifteen-metre buses, which are set to join EBS’s operations in December 2026. These buses will operate under the Reizen Door Zeeland brand, aimed at improving public transport services in the province.
The delivery of the first vehicles is expected in summer 2026. EBS currently boasts a robust fleet of over 500 electric buses across various regions, including Haaglanden, IJssel-Vecht, Zaanstreek-Waterland, and Voorne-Putten & Rozenburg.
Recent Developments
In September 2025, EBS expanded its fleet by introducing 43 additional BYD electric buses in the Haaglanden-Streek concession. This expansion aligns with the company’s commitment to providing emission-free public transport solutions.
Passenger-Centric Design
The design of the new buses was significantly influenced by feedback from passengers, drivers, and stakeholders. In June, more than 200 individuals contributed their insights, enhancing the overall design process.
- Comfortable seats with purple upholstery matching Reizen Door Zeeland’s colors.
- Green priority seats for enhanced visibility.
- Light wood effect flooring to create a calming atmosphere.
- Free Wi-Fi and USB-C charging stations at each seat.
- Accessibility features such as clear color contrasts on handrails and dedicated wheelchair spaces.
Service Enhancements
Starting December 2026, EBS will introduce the Flex service, an on-demand transport option available seven days a week from 06:00 to 23:00. This service aims to provide passengers with increased flexibility and reliability in their daily commutes.
Currently operational in Schouwen-Duiveland, Noord-Beveland, and parts of Zeeuws-Vlaanderen, Flex will be supported by local operators to ensure efficient management.
Commitment to Sustainability
Jan Kees Korteweg, COO of EBS, emphasized that this order represents a pivotal step towards creating a sustainable and clean public transport system. He highlighted that the new BYD buses will not only be emission-free but will also prioritize comfort and convenience for passengers.
As EBS prepares for these advancements, the integration of 73 new BYD zero-emission buses will significantly contribute to a greener future for public transportation in Zeeland.
