EBS Boosts Green Fleet in Zeeland with 73 Electric Buses from BYD

EBS is set to enhance its public transport fleet in Zeeland with a significant order of 73 electric buses from BYD. This order includes 64 battery-electric 12-meter buses and nine battery-electric 15-meter buses. EBS is actively working toward sustainable public transportation in the region, emphasizing clean energy solutions.

EBS Expands Electric Fleet

The newly ordered buses will operate under the ‘Reizen door Zeeland’ label, which is dedicated to public transport services in the province of Zeeland. Jan Kees Korteweg, COO of EBS, highlighted the importance of this move for sustainable and eco-friendly public transport.

Commitment to Sustainability

  • EBS’s fleet now consists predominantly of emission-free vehicles.
  • The company has more battery-electric buses than traditional combustion-engine buses.
  • Over 500 vehicles are currently in service across various concession areas.
  • Zeeland is set to receive these additional buses by 2026.

Korteweg expressed, “BYD buses perfectly align with our commitment to offering passengers greater comfort, safety, and user-friendliness.” This partnership aims to provide optimal transport solutions tailored to the needs of today’s travelers.

Recent Developments

EBS recently deployed 43 BYD electric buses in the Haaglanden-Streek concession area in September 2023. This successful collaboration between EBS and BYD strengthens the push towards cleaner transportation options.

In addition, EBS placed a remarkable order for 193 electric buses from VDL in 2023, making it the largest order VDL has ever received. This highlights EBS’s dedication to expanding their electric bus offerings significantly.

The steps taken by EBS to integrate electric buses demonstrate a clear vision for the future of public transport in Zeeland, setting a standard for sustainability in the industry.
