NOS Sport Warns Budget Cuts Threaten Eredivisie Highlights
Recent budget cuts at NPO raise serious concerns about the future of NOS Studio Sport, particularly regarding Eredivisie highlights.
Concerns Over Eredivisie Highlights Broadcast
Xander van der Wulp, the editor-in-chief of NOS Sport, expressed significant worries during a recent appearance on the talk show Pauw & De Wit. He indicated that the current budget, set at 45 million euros, including broadcasting rights, may not sustain Eredivisie summaries post-2027.
NPO Budget Cuts Impacting Sports Coverage
Van der Wulp mentioned that the cuts are just the beginning. He described a recent meeting where critical financial issues were discussed while sharing a simple setup of chips and projection screens displaying figures related to the station’s future.
These budget constraints could threaten various sports programs beyond just football. Notably, Van der Wulp highlighted the impact on programs like “Bord op Schoot,” whose rights are due for renewal in just 18 months.

- Football highlights (Eredivisie)
- Ice skating programming
- Other sports-related shows
Calls for Change in Public Broadcasting
While acknowledging the need for reform in public broadcasting, Van der Wulp noted the risk of losing programs that resonate with the audience. He criticized politicians who suggest that financial cutbacks can occur simply by reducing administrative costs. “This is total nonsense,” he stated. “Current reductions are targeting essential programs that hold significant value.”
As the future unfolds, the survival of beloved sports programming remains uncertain amid these financial challenges for NOS Sport.
