Odermatt Triumphs in World Cup Super-G at Copper Cup Opener

Marco Odermatt of Switzerland emerged victorious at the Copper Mountain’s World Cup Super-G event, marking his 47th career World Cup win. The race took place on November 27, 2025, as part of the opening day of the Copper Cup, which will span four days.

Odermatt Takes the Lead

Competing on the 531-meter West Encore course, Odermatt clocked an impressive time of 1:07.70. This victory adds to his remarkable record, having won four crystal globes in the previous two seasons. “It was a perfect start into the speed season,” he stated, emphasizing his successful strategy for the race.

Notable Performances

  • Vincent Kriechmayr finished in second place, just 0.08 seconds behind Odermatt.
  • Raphael Haaser completed the podium in third with a time of 1:07.83.
  • Stefan Babinsky and Lukas Feurstein followed in fourth and sixth places, respectively.

Kriechmayr, the 2021 world champion, expressed satisfaction with his run despite varying visibility conditions throughout the race. “It was a pretty nice race. I think in the beginning, we had some better light than the athletes behind us,” he noted.

Performance of American Skiers

American skier Ryan Cochran-Siegle, wearing bib number 1, showed promise but faced challenges during his run. Despite nearly going off course in a final turn, he managed to finish in 10th place. “I thought I was about to ski out, but I recovered just in time,” he explained.

Former Ski and Snowboard Club Vail athletes River Radamus and Kyle Negomir also earned points in the World Cup. Though Negomir finished 24th, he appreciated the local crowd’s support. “It’s special to compete where I grew up skiing,” he said.

Challenging Conditions

Both Radamus and Negomir acknowledged the difficult nature of the final pitch on the course. “No matter how they set this hill, that last tail turn always pulls hard,” Radamus remarked. Negomir added that the competition is tight, with minimal margins separating top contenders.

Unlike many athletes, Negomir plans to celebrate Thanksgiving with his family in Copper Village. He expressed gratitude for his career in skiing and for the supportive environment around him.
