Pluribus Crew Surprises Rhea Seehorn with a Better Call Saul Cameo
Vince Gilligan, the acclaimed creator of “Breaking Bad” and “Better Call Saul,” has ventured into the sci-fi genre with his new series “Pluribus.” This series features Rhea Seehorn as Carol Sturka, a romantasy author, and it boasts a cast that includes over 150 talents from “Better Call Saul.”
Surprising Cameo in “Pluribus”
In the latest episode titled “Got Milk,” Seehorn’s character finds herself alone after being seemingly abandoned by the collective consciousness known as the ‘Others.’ In a twist, the Others record a message assuring her that their feelings remain unchanged, but they need space. Viewers instantly recognized the voice on the recording as Patrick Fabian, who portrayed Howard G. Hamlin in “Better Call Saul.”
Keeping Secrets for the Surprise
The cameo was a surprise not only for fans but also for Seehorn herself. The “Pluribus” crew kept Fabian’s involvement a secret, aiming to capture Seehorn’s genuine reaction. She later shared, “They were hoping to get some kind of blooper take from me.” Despite her efforts to maintain character integrity during filming, she ultimately reacted with excitement after the cut. “That’s Patrick! You got Patrick!” she exclaimed.
A Unique Reaction
As the scene plays out, it’s unclear if the take used included Seehorn’s initial surprise. “If you got one of those psychologists studying micro facial muscle changes, you could see me go, ‘What? Patrick?’” she joked about her reaction. The episode’s writer, Ariel Levine, mentioned that the crew anticipated Seehorn breaking character, saying, “We fully expected her to break.”
Connections to “Better Call Saul”
Although Gilligan has downplayed the idea of a crossover between “Better Call Saul” and “Pluribus,” the series includes fun nods to its predecessor. For instance, during a flight, Carol boards a Wayfarer plane, echoing a significant event from “Breaking Bad.” Additionally, Carol drinks Macallan scotch, a favorite of Howard Hamlin in “Better Call Saul.”
Patrick Fabian’s Perfect Voice
Seehorn praised Fabian’s voice for being ideal for the recorded message, stating, “Patrick Fabian does have one of the all-time great voices.” His vocal qualities make him a fitting choice for the ‘Others’ message, which reflects the show’s whimsical nature.
