Angie Benhaffaf has been recognized as Carer of the Year in Dublin for her unwavering dedication to her conjoined twin sons, Hassan and Hussein. This award is a testament to her years of compassionate care amid significant medical challenges faced by her children.
Extraordinary Journey of Care
During her 12-week pregnancy scan, Ms. Benhaffaf received distressing news. Doctors informed her that her twins had a slim chance of survival and that she herself might not survive the pregnancy. Despite the ominous predictions, she remained resolute.
Hassan and Hussein share every organ except their hearts and have only one leg each. Nevertheless, Ms. Benhaffaf has always encouraged her boys to believe they can overcome any obstacle. Speaking at the award ceremony, she expressed her gratitude, saying it meant everything to her to receive such an acknowledgment after a challenging year.
Achievements and Contributions
The love and support from their mother have allowed Hassan and Hussein to thrive. They have represented Ireland four times in wheelchair basketball and athletics, earning numerous gold and silver medals.
