Drogheda School Triumphs Over 4000 Applicants for Enchanting Toy Show Debut
Students from St Ita’s Special School are preparing for a remarkable appearance on this year’s Late Late Toy Show. This event marks a significant milestone as they were selected from over 4,000 candidates across Ireland, making it their debut on the popular Christmas special.
Excitement Builds for the Performance
Nine students from north County Dublin and the Drogheda area will take part in this cherished holiday tradition. Their teacher, Emer Fitzsimons, expressed that anticipation has been mounting since they received the call confirming their participation in October.
“The auditions were an incredible experience,” said Fitzsimons. “The children loved visiting RTÉ and meeting the team behind the Toy Show. Learning they were chosen felt unbelievable.”
Rehearsals Underway
The students have been traveling to regular rehearsals, demonstrating eagerness about their upcoming live television performance. This achievement holds significant importance for the entire St Ita’s community, especially considering the fierce competition.
A Shared Stage with Talented Peers

Accessibility Innovations
This year, the Toy Show will also emphasize accessibility. For the first time, RTÉ will offer live Audio Description during the broadcast, enabling visually-impaired viewers to enjoy the show. Additionally, Irish Sign Language interpretation will be available live on the RTÉ News Channel and RTÉ Player.
