Waterford Rail Services Fully Restored for Christmas and New Year Festivities
Iarnród Éireann has announced the complete restoration of weekday rail services to and from Plunkett Station in Waterford. This service will remain in operation during the festive Christmas and New Year period. The restoration coincides with the completion of the initial phase of significant flood prevention measures.
Waterford Rail Services for the Holidays
The flood prevention works, which began on August 25, were temporarily halted to accommodate travelers during the busy holiday season. The final day of preparation for services was on November 26.
Schedule and Services
During this festive period, a total of eight trains will operate each way between Waterford and Dublin Heuston. On Fridays, the schedule increases to nine trains in each direction. Notably, there is a daily service leaving Waterford at 20:20 from Monday to Saturday, catering to visitors attending events at Winterval.
Post-Holidays Work Schedule
After the holiday break, track work will resume from January 5, 2026, through March 26, 2026. The flood defense activities will take place from 08:00 to 14:30 on Mondays to Thursdays.
Impact on Service
As a result of the upcoming work, several service changes will occur:
- 07:20 and 10:15 trains from Dublin Heuston to Waterford will terminate at Kilkenny, with bus transfers available from Kilkenny to Thomastown and Waterford.
- 11:00 and 13:05 trains from Waterford to Dublin Heuston will include bus transfers from Waterford and Thomastown to Kilkenny, followed by train service to Heuston.
- 09:45 service from Limerick Junction to Waterford will terminate at Carrick-on-Suir, with a bus transfer to Waterford.
