Denver Braces for Light Snowfall as Temperatures Plunge This Weekend
Metro Denver is preparing for a significant weather change following the Thanksgiving holiday. This weekend, temperatures are projected to drop sharply, with light snowfall expected along the Interstate 25 corridor.
Weather Forecast for Denver
Starting late Friday through the weekend, the region will experience minimal snow accumulation. Russell Danielson, a meteorologist at the National Weather Service (NWS) in Boulder, mentioned that total snowfall could range from a trace to about an inch.
Friday’s Conditions
On Friday, temperatures in Denver will peak at around 62 degrees. However, as night approaches, a dramatic drop to approximately 21 degrees is expected. Rain showers may occur before 11 p.m. on Friday, with the possibility of rain transitioning to snow between 11 p.m. and 2 a.m. on Saturday.
Saturday’s Forecast
- Snow chance: 50%, primarily before 8 a.m.
- High temperature: 32 degrees
- Winds: North-northeast at 6 to 10 mph, with gusts up to 16 mph
New snowfall on Saturday is anticipated to be less than half an inch, with an overnight low dropping to around 14 degrees.
Sunday Expectations
Sunday’s weather will bring a 20% chance of snow after 11 a.m. Conditions will be mostly cloudy, featuring a high near 30 degrees. A stronger chance of snow, about 40%, is predicted for Sunday night, mainly before 11 p.m., with temperatures falling to about 15 degrees.
Travel Advisory
The NWS warns that travelers should be cautious. Snow and blowing snow are anticipated for the mountains from Friday evening through early Saturday morning. The safest window for travel on Friday is during daylight hours, or travelers may choose to wait until late Saturday morning.
A second wave of mountain snow is scheduled for Sunday, further impacting travel conditions.
