Bloom Aid Club Hosts Fundraiser to Benefit Plover International

On October 29, the Bloom Aid Club hosted a successful fundraiser to support Plover International. This event focused on raising funds for menstrual hygiene products for underserved communities.

Fundraiser Highlights

The club organized the sale of Krispy Kreme donuts during lunchtime, which attracted a considerable number of participants. Julia Thomas, a member of the Bloom Aid chapter in Los Angeles, expressed satisfaction with the fundraiser’s performance in its second year. She noted that they matched the previous year’s fundraising totals.

Understanding Menstrual Inequity

According to UN Women, one in three adults in the United States struggle to afford period products. This issue is particularly pronounced among teenagers of color and low-income households. Thomas highlighted that menstrual inequity often goes unnoticed, stating, “It’s a really important health issue that impacts women worldwide.”

Community Engagement

In addition to working with Plover International, Bloom Aid collaborates with local organizations like Food on Foot. This partnership allows the club to directly address the needs of the Los Angeles community.

  • Bloom Aid donated menstrual products to Food on Foot.
  • The club engaged with community members, offering information about menstrual hygiene myths.

Future Goals

Looking ahead, Thomas mentioned the club’s desire to expand its partnerships with more local organizations. “We aim to create in-depth, ongoing collaborations that continue to combat period poverty,” she said.
