FX to Launch ‘Far Cry’ TV Series by Noah Hawley and Rob Mac

FX has confirmed the development of a television series based on Ubisoft’s acclaimed “Far Cry” video game franchise. This project is a collaboration between Noah Hawley and Rob Mac, both of whom hold key creative roles. Mac, previously known as McElhenney, will co-create the series and also take on a leading role.

Streaming Platforms and Format

The “Far Cry” series will be available on Hulu in the United States and on Disney+ internationally. It is designed as an anthology, with each season exploring a different cast and setting, mirroring the structure of the video games.

Creative Team and Background

Rob Mac expressed enthusiasm for working with Noah Hawley, calling it a “dream realized.” He acknowledged Ubisoft’s trust in their creative vision for this iconic video game world. Mac is recognized for his work on the long-running FX comedy “It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia,” which recently completed its 17th season. He also produces and stars in the award-winning docuseries “Welcome to Wrexham.”

Noah Hawley is known for creating the FX anthology series “Fargo,” which has won numerous awards, including seven Emmys from 70 nominations. He also worked on the FX-Marvel series “Legion.” Both creators have established successful careers with FX, combining for a total of six series and 32 seasons.

Partnership with Ubisoft

This series marks a significant return for Mac to Ubisoft, as he also co-created the Apple TV series “Mythic Quest,” which shares a production relationship with Ubisoft Film & Television. Hawley commented on the potential of the “Far Cry” series to explore themes of humanity through action-packed narratives, akin to the thematic variations found in “Fargo.”

The executive production team for the series includes:

  • Rob Mac, executive producing under More Better Productions
  • Noah Hawley under his overall deal with FX
  • Emilia Serrano for 26 Keys
  • Nick Frenkel for 3 Arts

FX Productions will handle the series’ production, with Nick Grad, president of FX Entertainment, stating that the partnership represents a continuation of successful collaborations with Hawley and Mac.

Background of the Far Cry Franchise
