Tulsa Braces for Potential Winter Weather on Monday
Tulsa is preparing for possible winter weather that may arrive overnight into December 1. City officials announced on November 30 that they have put plans in place to address any snowfall or winter precipitation that could affect the area.
Tulsa’s Winter Weather Preparedness
Despite expectations for light snowfall, Tulsa crews will mobilize at midnight to treat key elevated surfaces. This includes bridges, hills, and overpasses, which will be treated with a brine solution to prevent icing.
Driver Advisory
Officials urged drivers to be vigilant as weather conditions might change, potentially leading to hazardous road situations. With winter weather imminent, residents are advised to stay informed.
Warming Stations Available
For those needing shelter from the cold, Tulsa has established four warming stations that remain open 24/7:
- John 3:16 Mission: 506 North Cheyenne Avenue
- Tulsa Day Center: 415 West Archer Street (pets allowed with limited capacity)
- Salvation Army, Downtown Tulsa: 102 North Denver Avenue
- Be Heard Winter Weather Shelter: 7216 East Admiral Place (pets allowed, adults only)
Equipment and Resources
Tulsa city officials have prepared an extensive fleet of vehicles and resources to combat winter weather:
- 66 trucks equipped with salt spreaders
- 53 of these trucks also have snowplows
- 4 trucks fitted with liquid applicator brine systems
- 7 4×4 pickup trucks equipped with snowplows
- 2 motor graders available as plows
- Approximately 9,000 tons of salt, with additional deliveries scheduled
- 76,600 gallons of salt brine from 2 mixing systems
- 2 tanks containing 3,000 gallons of 32 percent calcium chloride
- 210 employees on hand, including drivers and support staff
The city’s primary focus will initially be on treating elevated surfaces, followed by residential streets and critical areas near hospitals and schools. For more information on snow and ice routes, maps are available through the city’s website.
