On this special day, all fixed-route (Orbit) and paratransit (Access) services will operate free of charge from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. Residents and visitors can take advantage of this opportunity to honor Parks’ legacy while utilizing local transit options.
Significance of Rosa Parks’ Legacy
Mayor Tommy Battle emphasized Parks’ simple yet powerful decision on that historic date, stating, “On December 1, 1955, Rosa Parks made a simple decision: ‘Not today.’ This moment became a spark that traveled far beyond a bus route and became a catalyst for change.” This reflects the enduring impact of her courageous stance against racial segregation.
