Accompanied by Revenue Minister KKSSR Ramachandran, he visited both the troubled areas and the state disaster control room in Chennai.
Tamil Nadu’s Monsoon Impact and Government Response
As heavy rains persist in Tamil Nadu, Chief Minister MK Stalin also undertook inspections amidst the adverse weather conditions. Udhayanidhi emphasized that the government is actively addressing the public’s complaints and requests related to the rainfall, especially those circulating on social media platforms. He assured that all grievances have been prioritized and responded to promptly.
Weather Forecast and Current Situation
Weather forecasts predict continued heavy rains in Tamil Nadu’s northern districts until noon on November 30, 2025. These conditions are attributed to a cyclonic system affecting the area. In the past 48 hours, Nagapattinam district recorded an alarming 30 cm of rainfall.
- Puducherry is also facing heavy rains and strong winds due to Cyclone Ditwah.
- Coastal areas are experiencing high tides and rainfall repercussions.
- A total of 16 State Disaster Response Force teams and 12 National Disaster Response Force teams have been deployed.
- Another 10 NDRF teams are en route to assist with relief efforts.
Public Safety Measures and Relief Efforts
Authorities have cautioned fishermen against venturing into the sea due to hazardous conditions. Approximately 20,000 hectares of farmland are currently submerged, and restoration efforts are underway.
- The government has prepared 500,000 rice packets to provide food supplies to affected families.
- The Deputy Chief Minister has urged residents to remain indoors unless necessary due to the forecasted rainfall.
Additionally, Revenue Minister Ramachandran addressed concerns regarding Tamil Nadu residents stranded in Sri Lanka due to these weather disturbances. While they faced food accessibility issues, he reassured that they are safe and will be repatriated once conditions improve.
Officials have been questioned about the lack of inspections in the severely impacted Delta districts. They noted that decisions regarding the areas to inspect will depend on evolving circumstances, and the Chief Minister may visit those regions as necessary.
