John Butler joined Nebraska’s coaching staff after an extensive career spanning over three decades. He had previously coached at various levels, including a notable role with the Buffalo Bills, where he helped the team maintain a top-five pass defense five times from 2018 to 2023. Butler was initially brought on as a secondary coach in July 2024, later being promoted to defensive coordinator.
Matt Rhule’s Leadership
Matt Rhule was appointed as Nebraska’s head coach on November 26, 2022, under an eight-year contract worth $74 million. He previously had successful stints at Temple and Baylor, transforming them into competitive programs. However, after three seasons with the Cornhuskers, Rhule’s record stands at 19-18.
Despite some early growth in the program, the team faced challenges late in the season, culminating in a need for adjustments. The university extended Rhule’s contract through 2032 on October 30, signifying their commitment to his leadership.
