Bemidji’s 29th ‘Night We Light’ Kicks Off Christmas Season Friday
The Night We Light celebration in Bemidji marks its 29th year this Friday, kicking off the Christmas season. Organized by the First City of Lights Foundation, this annual event, held on the day after Thanksgiving, is set to fill downtown Bemidji with festive cheer.
Event Details
Scheduled for November 28, the Night We Light celebration will feature an impressive display of over 500,000 lights. In addition to the spectacular illuminations, the event will include visits from Santa Claus, a lively parade, and a fireworks show to end the evening.
Changes for This Year
- No candy will be thrown during the parade to ensure safety and ease post-event cleanup.
- Attendees are reminded not to park along the parade route.
- New installations include tree panels behind iconic statues Paul and Babe.
- A “Cup of Cheer” booth will serve hot cocoa samples to visitors.
Despite challenges posed by a June storm that damaged local trees, the tree lighting ceremony will proceed as planned. Becky Kummet, President of the First City of Lights Foundation, expressed optimism about the event. She noted that the light display remains almost unchanged from previous years.
Community Spirit
Kummet highlighted the importance of this event for the Bemidji community, stating, “It’s a great opportunity for Bemidji to come together.” The excitement builds as kids eagerly await Santa’s arrival at 10:00 AM, creating joyful moments for families. The parade will feature Santa, adding to the event’s positive atmosphere.
