Xcel Energy Empowers Communities with Electricity, Volunteering, and Development Grants
Xcel Energy is dedicated to empowering communities through electricity services, volunteering efforts, and development grants. The company emphasizes its commitment to local growth and reliability in energy delivery.
Community Volunteering Initiatives
The Xcel Energy Sioux Falls Service Center employees demonstrate their dedication to the community. Their annual Day of Service and volunteering year-round illustrate their passion for helping others.
In September 2025, over 1,200 employees participated in the 15th annual Day of Service. They collaborated with community members, contributing around 3,500 volunteer hours valued at over $120,000 for various nonprofits in South Dakota, North Dakota, and Minnesota. The initiative honors the victims, survivors, and first responders of September 11.
Support for Local Nonprofits
Throughout the year, Xcel Energy employees support local nonprofits, especially those aiding individuals in need. In April, nine employees packed produce for 772 families and assembled food boxes for another 200 families.
Economic Development Grants
The Xcel Energy Foundation allocated economic development grants to four local communities, each receiving $5,000. The recipients include:
- Carthage (Population: 127) – Funded a new storm safety siren for Lake Carthage and Carthage City Park.
- Ramona (Population: 159) – Upgraded its ballpark to host summer baseball leagues and tournaments.
- Tea (Population: 7,381) – Installed a digital sign promoting local events and welcoming visitors.

Blood Donation Drives
In 2025, the Sioux Falls Service Center organized two blood drives, collecting 35 units to assist 105 local patients. Such efforts highlight Xcel Energy’s commitment to community welfare.
Opportunities for Community Involvement
Xcel Energy encourages individuals to give back. The company offers gift certificates ranging from $20 to $500, suitable for any occasion. Recipients can receive a personalized message or opt for anonymous delivery.
Additionally, Xcel Energy supports the HeatShare program, run by The Salvation Army, which helps those in need cover heating costs during harsh winters.
Through these initiatives, Xcel Energy demonstrates its commitment not only to reliable energy service but also to fostering strong, resilient communities.
