Track Cincinnati Snowplow in Real-Time: Check Your Road’s Treatment Schedule
Cincinnati has launched a new system that tracks snowplows in real-time, enhancing road safety during winter weather. This initiative went live for the first time on a Monday, offering residents minute-by-minute updates as crews prepared for expected snowfall.
Real-Time Snowplow Tracker Features
The snowplow tracker aids drivers by allowing them to document their routes and road treatments using tablets. The information recorded by the drivers includes:
- Untreated: The road has not yet received any service.
- Pretreatment: Liquid salt brine applied before snowfall to prevent ice buildup.
- Salted: Rock salt has been spread to help melt snow and ice.
- Plowed: Snow has been cleared from the right-of-way.
- Salted and Plowed: Both snow removal and rock salt application have occurred.
- Problem: An issue impeded road treatment efforts.
Implementation Background
This new tracking system was introduced following the impact of Winter Storm Blair in January, when many streets remained unplowed for days. Local leaders decided to improve operations to ensure better service during future snow events.
Additional Measures for Winter Preparedness
To complement the snowplow tracker, the city has installed ten weather stations throughout Cincinnati. These stations will help monitor snow depth, road conditions, and temperatures, providing critical data during winter storms.
Community Feedback
Local residents have expressed their appreciation for the new system. Helen Robinson, a resident of Sayler Park, was pleased to see her steep road pretreated on the day the tracker launched. She noted that maintaining safe road conditions on hilly, winding streets can be challenging during snowfalls.
Robinson shared, “It’s nice to be first instead of last for a change.” Her feedback reflects the positive reception of Cincinnati’s proactive approach to winter weather management.
Accessing the Snowplow Tracker
Residents can easily access the Cincinnati snowplow tracker online to stay updated on current road conditions. This initiative represents Cincinnati’s commitment to enhancing safety and improving response times during winter weather.
