YouTube Launches Spotify Wrapped-Style Recap for Videos
YouTube has introduced a new feature that allows users to review their video-watching habits from the past year. This rollout is in line with a trend seen in other platforms like Spotify, which also offers a year-end recap experience.
YouTube’s Recap Feature Overview
The new Recap feature offers a personalized summary of viewers’ interests and habits. Users will receive up to 12 cards that highlight their top channels and the evolution of their video preferences. This feature not only focuses on individual watching history but also categorizes users into different “personality types,” such as Adventurer, Skill Builder, and Creative Spirit.
Availability and Access
- The Recap feature is available in the US as of today.
- A global rollout is expected within the week.
- Users can access Recap on both mobile devices and desktops.
- It can be found via a dedicated button on the homepage or within the “You” tab in the user menu.
Integration with YouTube Music
While this Recap feature provides insights into video trends, it does not replace the existing YouTube Music Recap. Users of the YouTube Music app will still receive a distinct annual summary that includes their most played artists, songs, genres, and podcasts.
Trends and Insights from 2023
In addition to the Recap feature, YouTube has shared statistics reflecting current trends in user preferences. For instance, popular creators like MrBeast continue to dominate the platform. The podcast rankings show that The Joe Rogan Experience remains a favorite among listeners.
Interestingly, data revealed that the KPop Demon Hunters soundtrack was significantly less popular in Shorts compared to its standing on overall top songs charts.
This new feature highlights YouTube’s commitment to enhancing user engagement by providing tailored content experiences.
