The Dortmund Christmas Market is set to be one of the largest Advent markets in Europe for 2025. Marking its 126th edition, the event will commence on November 20 and conclude on December 30, 2025. A significant feature of the market is the impressive Christmas tree structure located at Hansaplatz, towering approximately 45 meters high. This magnificent tree is constructed using around 1,200 individual fir trees and will be illuminated with over 138,000 LED lights. At the top, a four-meter-tall angel figure completes the display.
Dortmund Christmas Market 2025: Opening Hours
The official opening took place on November 24, when the Christmas tree lighting ceremony was held. The market will not operate on November 23 and December 25, with limited stalls available on Christmas Eve. The following are the regular operational hours:
- Monday to Thursday: 11 AM – 9 PM
- Friday and Saturday: 11 AM – 10 PM
- Sunday: 12 PM – 9 PM
Special hours apply on specific dates:

What to Expect at the Dortmund Christmas Market 2025
The market will feature a diverse array of stalls offering handcrafted products, seasonal foods, and numerous entertainment options. Here are some highlights of the program:
- Christmas Village Activities: From November 24 to December 23, children can participate in crafting, baking, and meet Santa Claus. EMMA, the Borussia Dortmund mascot, will be present on Mondays, while weekends will feature Siegi.
- Reading Stars Event: A daily storytelling session will occur from December 1 to December 23 at 4:30 PM in the Christmas Village.
- Family Magic Show: Daily performances by magician Salasas will take place at 3:30 PM and 5 PM, with additional weekend shows at 1:30 PM.
- Puppet Theater: The Hohnsteiner Puppet Theater will perform daily at Reinoldikirche from November 24 to December 30.
- Scavenger Hunt: A scavenger hunt will guide participants to ten locations in the Christmas City, with a small prize for completed entries.
- Guided Market Tour: A two-hour tour will be available from November 29 to December 21, priced at €35 per person.
- Light Show: A short light projection will be presented daily starting at 5 PM, repeating every hour.

Visitors can use several Park-and-Ride facilities, including Hauptfriedhof, Westfalenpark (D1), Hafen, and Schulte-Rödding. Valid ticket holders can park for free for 24 hours with public transport usage, while a nominal fee applies afterward. Public transportation options are available at nearby tram stations such as Kampstraße and Reinoldikirche, providing easy access to the market. The Dortmund main train station is also a short walk away, facilitating travel from surrounding areas.
