Christmas City Shines in Full Splendor
The Christmas City is once again dazzling the streets of Dortmund. On November 24, 2025, the city inaugurated its renowned Christmas market in a vibrant atmosphere filled with festivities.
Grand Opening Ceremony
The celebration commenced with the lighting of one of the world’s largest Christmas trees, standing 45 meters tall. This year, the city’s mayor, Alexander Kalouti, had the honor of switching on the tree’s impressive 138,000 LEDs for the first time from a special window integrated into the structure.
At exactly 6 PM, Kalouti rang a bell to signal the official start of the festivities while illuminating the Christmas tree. The event featured musical performances from Morgan Moody, a celebrated singer from the Dortmund Theater, and the United Harriet Colliery Band from TU Dortmund, enhancing the ceremonial experience.
Enchanting Displays
- The tree showcases an enhanced decoration scheme this year.
- Prominent features include red candles wrapped around the tree.
- Two angel figures with moving wings add to the holiday charm.
Starting from this year, visitors can enjoy a captivating two-minute light display every hour, beginning at 5 PM. This initiative caters to feedback from previous events, ensuring the tree features a more festive aesthetic compared to last year, which focused solely on lights.
Visitor Experience
The Christmas City promises a unique and enchanting experience for everyone. With its remarkable decorations and joyful performances, it invites residents and tourists alike to indulge in the holiday spirit.
As the festivities unfold, Dortmund’s Christmas City stands as a testament to community joy and holiday tradition, truly shining in full splendor.
