Remembering Gabriel Gay OBrien A Tribute from Barna Galway
It is with profound sadness that the O’Brien family announces the passing of Gabriel “Gay” O’Brien. He died after a courageous battle with illness at Galway University Hospital early on December 1, 2025. Gay was a retired member of the Garda Síochána and resided in Upper Salthill.
Family and Friends Remember Gabriel O’Brien
Born to the late Peter and May O’Brien, Gay is survived by his devoted wife Sandra, sons Shane, and daughter Paola, along with her partner Antonio. His cherished granddaughter, Isabella, along with numerous relatives, including brothers John and Paul, sister-in-law Marie, and brother-in-law John and his wife Ann, will also miss him dearly.

Funeral Arrangements
Gay will lie in repose at the ‘Cillín’ in the Church of Mary Immaculate Queen, Barna, starting at 5:30 p.m. on December 3, 2025. The removal into the church is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
A Requiem Mass will take place on December 4, 2025, at 12:00 noon, also at the Church of Mary Immaculate Queen. For those unable to attend, the service will be live-streamed and available on Radio FM 106.6, although the signal may not reach all areas of the parish.
Gay will be cremated privately at Shannon Crematorium on December 5, 2025, at 12:00 noon, concluding the family’s private farewell.
