Kohli Set to Compete in Vijay Hazare Trophy, Confirms DDCA

Virat Kohli is set to compete in the upcoming Vijay Hazare Trophy, as confirmed by the Delhi District Cricket Association (DDCA). The tournament is scheduled to commence on December 24 in Ahmedabad.

Kohli’s Participation in Domestic Cricket

At 37 years old, Kohli currently participates exclusively in 50-over format cricket for India. Following a recent mandate by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), contracted players are obliged to take part in domestic competitions. As a result, Kohli is expected to represent his home state, Delhi, in this prestigious tournament.

Ashok Sharma, secretary of the DDCA, provided insights into Kohli’s involvement. He stated, “He will definitely play a few games, but not sure about the entire tournament.” His participation will largely depend on the schedule of India’s international matches.

Kohli recently celebrated a remarkable milestone, scoring his 52nd One Day International (ODI) century against South Africa in Ranchi. His impressive innings of 135 runs included seven sixes and earned him the Player of the Match award.

Following the last ODI of the series on December 6 in Visakhapatnam, Kohli will have ample time to prepare for the Vijay Hazare Trophy. However, it remains uncertain if he will participate in all of Delhi’s seven league matches, which will conclude on January 8. This timeline is crucial, as it is just three days before the ODI series against New Zealand in Vadodara.

• League Matches: Delhi will play five matches in Alur, near Bengaluru, and two at M Chinnaswamy Stadium, which is also Kohli’s home ground for the IPL team Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB).
• Previous Participation: Kohli last represented Delhi in 50-over cricket during the NKP Salve Challenger Trophy in September 2013. He participated in the Vijay Hazare Trophy back in the 2009-10 season, leading Delhi in both tournaments.
