Search for Missing Flight MH370 Resumes This Month
The long-awaited search for missing Malaysia Airlines Flight MH370 is set to resume on December 30, according to Malaysia’s transport ministry. The flight mysteriously vanished on March 8, 2014, while en route from Kuala Lumpur to Beijing, carrying 227 passengers and 12 crew members.
Resumed Search Operations
Despite numerous previous attempts to locate the missing Boeing 777, no substantial findings have emerged. The latest search, conducted in the southern Indian Ocean, was halted in April due to adverse weather conditions. The exploration firm Ocean Infinity has announced it will undertake new seabed operations over the next 55 days. These efforts will target areas assessed to have the highest probability of discovering the wreckage.
Search Specifications
- The search will cover an estimated area of 5,790 square miles.
- Malaysia will issue a $70 million payment to Ocean Infinity if significant wreckage is found.
- Operations will be intermittent, as confirmed by the transport ministry.
While the exact location of the search area remains undisclosed, it follows the terms agreed upon between the Malaysian government and Ocean Infinity.
Previous Investigations and Findings
Initial investigations into the disappearance of Flight MH370 did not exclude the possibility of the aircraft being deliberately diverted. Some debris, which is either confirmed or suspected to be from the flight, has been found along the coasts of Africa and on islands in the Indian Ocean.
A comprehensive report released in 2018 indicated that the plane’s controls appeared to have been manipulated to veer off course. However, investigators were unable to determine who was behind the actions. They also cleared both the captain and co-pilot of any suspicious backgrounds or issues related to mental health and financial affairs.
Passenger Demographics
Among the 239 people aboard Flight MH370, more than 150 were Chinese nationals. Other passengers included 50 Malaysians, along with citizens from multiple countries such as:
- France
- Australia
- Indonesia
- India
- United States

- Canada
Relatives of those on board have sought compensation from several parties, including Malaysia Airlines, Boeing, Rolls-Royce, and Allianz insurance group, among others. The mystery surrounding Flight MH370 continues to captivate and frustrate both the families of the victims and aviation experts alike.
