Hardin County Board Celebrates Staff, Students; Highlights Math Initiatives
The Hardin County Board of Education recently recognized the achievements of staff and students while highlighting instructional improvements in mathematics.
Recognition of Excellence
During the latest board meeting, several individuals were honored for their outstanding contributions. The board approved a formal recognition resolution celebrating the following:
- Clyde Grant, North Hardin High School engineering teacher
- Harold Perez Lopez, eighth-grade student who won a blue ribbon at the Kentucky State Fair
- Kat Henderson, instructional assistant at North Park Elementary
- Chad Lewis, guidance counselor at John Hardin High School
- Bobby Thompson, volunteer from Glendale Christian Church
Presenters emphasized long-term collaboration, student mentorship, and community service as key factors in these recognitions.
Mathematical Initiatives Highlighted
The agenda also included a comprehensive update on elementary mathematics. Educators introduced several key initiatives aimed at enhancing math instruction:
- A revised math pacing guide developed with teacher committees
- Introduction of two common assessments for grades 3 and 5, with plans to extend to K-2
- A standards continuum marking priority standards on report cards
Staff members credited ongoing foundational numeracy efforts in partnership with GREC and CREC teams, which began in 2022. Additional strategies included:
- Increased use of manipulatives to aid learning
- Revamped MTSS and RTI programs that auto-enroll students meeting cut-score thresholds for targeted interventions
- Establishment of principal “math cadres” for cross-school collaboration
Improving Test Scores
Presenters noted a positive trend in district test scores across various subjects. The board attributed these improvements to the consistent implementation of the new math initiatives.
Board members expressed gratitude to the presenters and acknowledged the district’s ongoing efforts to enhance instruction and assessment.
