Patrick Kielty Reaches Zen Buddha Stage in Third Year Hosting Late Late Toy Show

This year’s Late Late Toy Show embraces the spirit of the Grinch, inspired by Dr. Seuss’s Christmas classic. As the show approaches its 50th anniversary, host Patrick Kielty reflects on its evolution. He recalls its modest beginnings in 1975 as a 30-minute segment under Gay Byrne, now transformed into a major annual event.

Host Patrick Kielty’s Journey

Patrick Kielty is entering his third year as the show’s host. He describes his current mindset as the “zen Buddha stage” of the Toy Show. Kielty emphasizes that despite months of planning, the most memorable moments often occur spontaneously during the live broadcast.

This Year’s Show Features

The opening of the Late Late Toy Show will feature narration by esteemed actor Liam Neeson, setting the scene in Whoville. This year, over 300 children will grace the stage, showcasing their talents.

  • Frankie Griffin (10) from Walkinstown, Dublin, is one of the young stars, eager to perform and dance with his fellow participants.
  • Nina He (11) from County Fermanagh will also take to the stage, singing and marking her first live television appearance.

A Tradition of Celebration

The show will also feature a “county parade,” a colorful tribute to all 32 counties of Ireland. Each child will participate in a captivating display of dance and pageantry.

Supporting a Noble Cause

Alongside entertainment, the Toy Show will continue its fundraising initiative, the Toy Show Appeal, launched in 2020. To date, the appeal has raised an impressive €26 million.

Viewership and Broadcast Information

The Late Late Toy Show is anticipated to be one of the biggest television events in Ireland this December. Last year, 1.5 million viewers tuned in to watch, with streaming numbers hitting 556,000 on RTÉ Player.

Mark your calendars: The show airs on Friday, December 5th, at 9:35 PM on RTÉ One and RTÉ Player.
