RTÉ has announced significant changes to its presenter lineup, bringing in notable journalists for key roles on their radio and news programming. Sarah McInerney and Justin McCarthy will join the renowned Morning Ireland, while Tommy Meskill is set to co-present the Six One News. Paul Cunningham will also take charge of the Sunday afternoon programme, This Week.

Key Presenter Changes at RTÉ

The adjustments are part of RTÉ’s revamped weekday schedule. Deirdre McCarthy, the Director of RTÉ News & Current Affairs, praised the new presenters for their journalistic achievements. She stated that they will “ask the probing questions, hold those in power to account, and represent the public interest.”

New Roles for Experienced Journalists

  • Sarah McInerney: Currently hosts PrimeTime on RTÉ One and co-hosted Drivetime for five years.
  • Justin McCarthy: Former reporter on Morning Ireland, bringing extensive experience to his new role.
  • Tommy Meskill: A decade with RTÉ, he expressed pride in his new position and the program’s impact on Ireland’s news agenda.
  • Paul Cunningham: With seven years as a political correspondent, he has presented This Week since 2018 and welcomes new challenges.

Previous Changes in RTÉ Radio 1

These recent appointments follow earlier modifications in RTÉ Radio 1. This included David McCullagh taking over the Today show with a new start time of 9 AM. Oliver Callan expanded his slot to two hours at 11 AM, while Kieran Cuddihy transitioned from Newstalk to Liveline, succeeding Joe Duffy. Additionally, Louise Duffy’s music show moved to 3 PM, and Katie Hannon and Colm Ó Mongáin were positioned as new hosts of Drivetime.

Further, a new programme titled Inside Sport was introduced, featuring Jacqui Hurley and Marie Crowe as presenters, enhancing RTÉ’s comprehensive coverage of news and current affairs.
