Kevin Sinfield Exceeds £777k Goal in Spectacular 7-Day Ultramarathon Challenge for Motor Neurone Disease Research

Kevin Sinfield has impressively surpassed his fundraising goal of £777,777 in his latest challenge for Motor Neurone Disease (MND) research. With two days left, Sinfield has already raised over £780,000 in his ongoing effort.

Overview of the 7-Day Ultramarathon Challenge

The former Leeds rugby league star is undertaking the ‘7 in 7: Together’ challenge, which involves running seven ultramarathons across the UK and Ireland within seven days. This initiative aims to raise awareness and funds for the MND community, building on past successes that have generated over £10 million through five previous challenges.

Progress and Achievements

  • Current fundraising total: Over £799,790.
  • Target reached: £777,777.
  • Challenge completion: Five out of seven ultramarathons completed.

Sinfield completed the fifth leg of his journey on Friday, running from Workington’s Fibrus Community Stadium to Whitehaven’s Recreation Ground. England rugby union head coach Steve Borthwick joined him for part of this leg. The team reached their fundraising target while passing through Moresby, generating strong local support.

Days and Locations Involved

The ultramarathon challenge spans several key locations, with the following itinerary:

  • Day 1: East Anglia
  • Day 2: Cork, Ireland
  • Day 3: Swansea
  • Day 4: Sheffield, starting from Bramall Lane

Sinfield runs in memory of his close friend and former teammate Rob Burrow, who was diagnosed with MND in late 2019 and passed away in 2024 at the age of 41.

Impact and Motivation

This challenge is not just about fundraising; it’s also focused on elevating awareness in regions that often get overlooked regarding MND. Sinfield’s commitment to this cause continues to inspire many across the UK and beyond.
