Amber Davies Opens Up About Using Alcohol as a Coping Mechanism After Strictly Split
Amber Davies has recently opened up about her journey with alcohol and its role as a coping mechanism following her breakup. The popular star gained recognition in 2017 after winning Love Island alongside Kem Cetinay. Since then, she has achieved a successful career and is currently a participant in this year’s Strictly Come Dancing, which premiered on December 6.
Amber’s Decision to Quit Alcohol
In January 2018, Amber appeared on ITV’s Lorraine, discussing her participation in the Lose the Booze challenge. During the interview, she revealed that she had used alcohol as a way to handle her heartbreak after her split from Kem Cetinay. She expressed, “I definitely used alcohol as a coping mechanism for the heartbreak.”
Amber reflected on her drinking habits, stating, “You drink, drink, drink, you let your hair down and have fun. I took about four steps back when I should have actually powered through.” After just ten days without alcohol, she felt “so refreshed and healthy.” She noted, “When I drink, the next day I’m moping around, feeling sorry for myself. Now I’m up in the morning, I’ve got goals, I’m a lot happier in myself!”
Maintaining Sobriety and Mental Health
By April 2022, Amber announced that she had been sober for eight months. She emphasized how her mental health had notably improved during this time. When questioned about the possibility of drinking in the future, she shared, “It’s a hard one… the impact it’s had on my mental health and the relationship with myself has been life changing.”
- Amber stated, “I definitely know I will never drink like I used to.”
- However, she added, “Maybe in years to come I’ll have a couple here and there! Right now I couldn’t think of anything worse!”
