In a heartfelt ceremony, Lecanto High School honored its notable alumnus, actor Miles Teller, by naming its theater after him. This special event took place on a Friday, celebrating both Teller’s achievements and the 20th anniversary of his graduation.

Lecanto High School Dedicates Theatre to Miles Teller

The dedication of the Miles Teller Theatre at the Curtis Peterson Auditorium was a highlight of the assembly attended by students and faculty. The award-winning actor was welcomed back enthusiastically by the current students of Lecanto High School.

A Generous Contribution

During the assembly, Miles Teller and his wife, Keleigh Teller, made a significant donation of $50,000 to the Citrus County Education Foundation. This financial contribution aims to support underprivileged students, ensuring they have access to essential resources for their education.

Reflections on a Remarkable Journey

Having graduated in 2005, Teller reminisced about his time at Lecanto. He expressed warmth and nostalgia as he stood on the same stage where he began his acting career. “I was just in the dressing room earlier tonight and I was having all of these memories,” said Teller, reflecting on his early experiences.

His journey in theater began with the high school production of “Footloose,” where he portrayed Willard Hewitt—an iconic role he later reprised in the film adaptation.

Inspiring Future Generations

Dr. Scott Hebert, superintendent of Citrus County Schools, emphasized the significance of the dedication. He noted, “From now on, anyone who performs on this stage can begin dreaming their own dreams and may become the next Hollywood superstar.” This statement underscores the theater’s role in inspiring future talents.

The Importance of Giving Back

Miles Teller highlighted pressing social issues during his visit. He drew attention to the struggles faced by some students, mentioning those who are homeless and living without adequate support. He stressed that everyone deserves an education and basic necessities like food and clothing.

The dedication of the Miles Teller Theatre symbolizes not only recognition of Teller’s accomplishments but also a commitment to uplifting the community and its aspiring talents.
