Met Éireann Issues Rain and Wind Warnings: Flooding Risk Looms
Met Éireann has issued significant weather warnings as adverse conditions loom over several counties. Flooding and travel disruptions are foreseen due to heavy rainfall and strong winds.
Rain and Wind Warnings Across Counties
A status yellow rain warning is active in the following counties:
- Carlow
- Kilkenny
- Wexford
- Cork
- Kerry
- Tipperary
- Waterford
This warning is effective from 9 PM on Monday until 9 AM on Tuesday. Heavy rain is expected on already saturated ground, raising concerns about localized flooding and hazardous travel.
Wind and Coastal Risks
In addition to the rain warning, a yellow wind warning will take effect across the Republic on Tuesday. This will last from 3 AM until 9 PM. Strong southerly winds are forecasted, with gales anticipated near coastal regions.
These winds, combined with high spring tides, escalate the risk of flooding in coastal areas. Loose debris could also pose risks on the roads, further complicating travel conditions.
Weather Forecast Overview
Monday’s weather will be predominantly breezy, featuring sunny spells interspersed with scattered showers. Thunderstorms are expected in the west and northwest regions, along with mist along the southern coasts. Highs will reach between 8 to 13 degrees Celsius.
As night falls, conditions will shift from dry to wet and windy. The potential for stormy weather increases, with heavy thundery rain and strong southerly winds reported later in the evening. The lowest temperatures are predicted to range from 7 to 11 degrees Celsius.
Tuesday’s Expectations
On Tuesday, many areas will experience stormy conditions with a continuation of strong to gale-force winds. The morning will be particularly wet with widespread thundery rain. Flooding may occur as heavy rainfall impacts southern counties.
In the afternoon, scattered showers might follow, with some being heavy and thundery, particularly in the west and northwest. Expected high temperatures will range from 13 to 15 degrees Celsius, dropping to a range of 6 to 9 degrees Celsius by Tuesday night.
Overall, temperatures will be regarded as average or above for this time of year, according to Met Éireann.
