Revenue has released its quarterly report detailing tax defaulters from July 1 to September 30, showcasing settlements totaling €10.5 million. This report includes 30 cases that highlight significant tax liabilities and the consequences of non-declaration.

Top Tax Defaulters

The leading name on the list is Francis Cullen, a machinery sales and repair provider from Enniscorthy. He faced a staggering tax bill of €1.77 million due to the non-declaration of income tax, PAYE/PRSI, and VAT. This total includes:

  • Income tax non-declaration: €859,198 (including €31,569 surcharge)
  • Interest: €204,169
  • Penalties: €710,729

Cases Exceeding €1 Million

The report highlights another significant case involving Marina Jane Loddick from Moate, County Westmeath, who also faced a tax settlement over €1 million. Her total amounted to €1,028,584, broken down as follows:

  • Income tax and VAT non-declaration: €482,946 (including a €22,800 surcharge)
  • Interest: €245,270
  • Penalties: €300,368

Additional Notable Settlements

Several other cases featured tax liabilities just below the €1 million mark:

  • Keith McFadden (Castlebar): Total bill of €892,501 for under-declared income tax.
  • Helen Moore (Tralee): Total bill of €683,369 for under-declared income tax.
  • Michael Moorehouse (Fermoy): Total bill of €643,962 for under-declared income tax and VAT.

These settlements emphasize the strict enforcement of tax compliance. Overall, 20 cases were reported between €101,000 and €500,000, while five settlements were less than €100,000.

Excise Offences and Other Penalties

In addition to tax defaulters, the report included various excise offences, focusing on tobacco smuggling and misuse of marked mineral oil, also known as green diesel. Notably:

  • 39 cases resulted in €70,247.50 in court-imposed fines.
  • A construction worker, Dragos Alin Ocanu, received a three-month prison sentence for tobacco smuggling.
  • 15 cases of tobacco-related offences incurred €34,500 in fines.

Fines for Liquor Licence Violations

Several businesses were penalized for failing to adhere to liquor licensing regulations, with fines as follows:

  • Base Wood Fired Pizza, Dublin: €632.50
  • Vendricks Restaurant, Killarney: €850
  • Publican Patrick Hayes, Thurles: €632.50
  • Raceside Service Station, Cashel: €632.50
