A tragic incident in Tenerife has resulted in the death of a fourth victim following a severe sea surge. A woman hospitalized in critical condition succumbed to her injuries early on Monday, as confirmed by emergency services from the Canary Islands government.

Details of the Incident

The casualties occurred on Sunday afternoon after large waves unexpectedly crashed into the coast. At least seven individuals fell into the water around 4:00 PM due to the surge. Witness accounts describe the chaos as waves surged, leaving onlookers in shock.

Rescue Efforts

  • A helicopter from Salvamento Marítimo located and rescued one survivor.
  • Rescue teams retrieved the body of one victim from the sea.
  • Efforts to rescue another woman, who was in cardiac arrest, were initiated immediately.

The woman was stabilized after advanced resuscitation maneuvers by the emergency services at the dock. She was subsequently airlifted to La Candelaria Hospital in Santa Cruz de Tenerife, where she later died at approximately 7:00 AM.

Victims’ Nationalities and Conditions

Among the deceased, two were reported to be Romanian and one Slovakian. Another individual, a 39-year-old woman, survived but sustained serious injuries and was hospitalized with moderate trauma.

Ongoing Search for Missing Persons

Emergency teams have continued scouring the area for a possible fifth victim, following witness claims. However, officials have stated that no formal missing person reports have been filed.

Warnings and Safety Measures

The Directorate General of Emergencies in the Canary Islands has maintained a pre-alert status due to hazardous coastal conditions since October 5. Emilio Navarro, the mayor of Santiago del Teide, confirmed that the area had been closed off in anticipation of dangerous weather.

The authorities continue to urge residents and visitors to adhere to safety precautions along the coasts.

Additional Incidents

On the same day, emergency services rescued a 27-year-old Italian man who fell into the sea while fishing at Los Charcones beach in Lanzarote. He was also in critical condition, experiencing cardiac arrest before being transported to Doctor José Molina Orosa Hospital.
