FSU Football Considers D2 Quarterback for Transfer Opportunity

The Florida State Seminoles are actively exploring options for their quarterback position following senior Tommy Castellanos’s waiver denial by the NCAA. His return to the roster appears unlikely for the 2026 season. As a result, Florida State will seek a new starter through the transfer portal for the third consecutive year.

FSU Considering D2 Quarterback Marcus Stokes

Reports indicate that Florida State has reached out to Marcus Stokes, a talented quarterback transferring from the University of West Florida. Stokes is not the only player in demand; schools such as Syracuse, Iowa, and Northwestern are also vying for his services.

Stokes’ Impressive Track Record

Over the past three seasons, Stokes has established himself as a standout player at the D2 level. He recently became a finalist for the Harlon Hill Award, recognizing him as one of the top performers in his division.

  • 2023 Season Statistics:
    • Games Played: 12
    • Completion Rate: 60.1% (223/368 passes)
    • Total Yards: 3,297
    • Touchdowns: 30
    • Interceptions: 13
    • Rushing Yards: 367 (10 touchdowns)

Throughout his college career, Stokes has accrued a total of 4,890 passing yards, with 44 touchdowns against 21 interceptions. He also rushed for 587 yards, scoring 13 touchdowns on the ground. His performance includes five games with over 300 passing yards and five games with three or more touchdown passes.

Previous Connection with Florida State

Stokes has previously visited Florida State unofficially. Although he did not receive a scholarship offer then, head coach Mike Norvell and quarterbacks coach Tony Tokarz are familiar with his capabilities. Stokes will have two years of eligibility left, making him an attractive option for the Seminoles.

Current Quarterback Roster for 2026

As Florida State moves forward, they currently have several quarterbacks on their roster:

  • Brock Glenn (Redshirt Junior)
  • Jaylen King (Redshirt Junior)
  • Michael Grant (Redshirt Junior)
  • Kevin Sperry (Redshirt Freshman)
  • Jaden O’Neal (True Freshman)

With competition heating up in the transfer market, it remains to be seen how aggressively Florida State will pursue Stokes, especially as more names enter consideration for the quarterback position.
