Glen Powell’s $90 Million Top Gun Replacement Skyrockets on Streaming Following Chad Powers Renewal
Glen Powell fans have much to celebrate with the announcement of a second season of Chad Powers by Hulu. However, before he reprises his role as the football star, Powell’s previous work, the war biopic Devotion, has experienced a resurgence in popularity on streaming platforms.
Devotion: A War Biopic’s Streaming Success
Devotion, released in 2022, features Glen Powell alongside Jonathan Majors, known for his role in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The film depicts the harrowing experiences of two pilots during the Korean War and is now available for streaming on HBO Max globally.
- Release Date: November 23, 2022
- Runtime: 138 minutes
- Director: J.D. Dillard
- Screenwriters: Jake Crane, Jonathan Stewart, based on the novel by Adam Makos
Since its release, Devotion has climbed into the top 10 streaming charts in several countries, including Denmark and Finland. The film has received a Certified Fresh rating of 81% from critics and an impressive 92% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes.
Financial Challenges
Despite strong reviews, Devotion faced financial struggles. The film had a substantial production budget of $90 million but only managed to earn $21 million at the global box office, marking it as Powell’s most significant underperformer to date.
Glen Powell’s Upcoming Projects
Powell is also involved in another high-profile project, a remake of the classic 1987 film The Running Man. This new adaptation comes with a staggering budget of $110 million, yet it has only grossed $60 million to date, moving it closer to flop status.
The break-even point for The Running Man exceeds $200 million, and projections suggest it may not reach the $100 million mark by the end of its theatrical run. With Devotion now making waves in streaming, fans remain hopeful for Powell’s future endeavors.
Although Devotion is not currently streaming in the United States, viewers can find the film on VOD platforms such as Prime Video.
