Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko criticized Lithuania’s emergency measures, referring to them as a “mad scam.” He characterized Lithuania’s actions as part of a hybrid conflict against Belarus and downplayed the impact of the balloons on civil aviation. Lukashenko urged a diplomatic dialogue, stating, “If you want normal relations, sit down at the table and discuss these issues.” His deputy foreign minister echoed this sentiment, calling for political communication.

In light of rising tensions, Lithuania has also closed two border crossings in response to airspace violations. Plans are in place to potentially shut border crossings with Belarus indefinitely, highlighting the seriousness of the situation.
