Mastic Beach Resident Jovanni Jamison-Lewis Accused of Mail Theft Involving Gift Cards

Mastic Beach resident Jovanni Jamison-Lewis has been accused of mail theft involving gift cards. The Suffolk County District Attorney’s Office has detailed the case against Jamison-Lewis, who was arrested on November 24.

Details of the Investigation

Jamison-Lewis, 35, worked as a sales service distribution agent at the Oakdale Post Office for about a year. Prosecutors allege she engaged in systematic theft by targeting mail likely to contain gift cards or valuable items.

  • Allegedly opened some pieces of mail at the post office.
  • Stole entire packages to open later.

Items Purchased with Stolen Cards

The stolen gift cards were reportedly used to purchase items such as handbags, appliances, and jewelry at TJ Maxx. The total value of the theft remains unknown.

Covert Investigation

The investigation lasted two months and was prompted by a tip from the United States Postal Service Office of Inspector General. The tip indicated that Jamison-Lewis had used a stolen gift card at TJ Maxx.

To gather evidence, investigators set up hidden cameras at the post office. The footage shows Jamison-Lewis allegedly committing the thefts and later using the cards at the retail store.

Arrest and Evidence Found

Jamison-Lewis was apprehended after an undercover officer purchased a gift card from her and later found it stolen. During her arrest, police discovered:

  • Two pieces of stolen mail in her pants.
  • Four pieces of mail in her pocketbook.

Further investigation at her home led to the recovery of an additional 19 pieces of stolen mail.

Charges and Legal Proceedings

Jamison-Lewis is facing multiple charges including grand larceny, criminal possession of stolen property, official misconduct, and petit larceny. After her arraignment, she was released without bail.

District Attorney Ray Tierney emphasized that the investigation is ongoing, and further charges may be forthcoming. He stated, “There are, however, just a few bad actors” among dedicated public servants.

Jamison-Lewis resigned from her position on December 1. As of now, she has not been reachable for comments regarding the allegations.
