UK Households Offered Free £125 Cost of Living Vouchers for Supermarket Shopping

UK households can now receive free £125 Cost of Living vouchers to aid their supermarket shopping. This initiative is part of the Household Support Fund (HSF) launched by the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP). Derby City Council has received £3.920 million from this fund to assist residents facing financial difficulties.

Overview of the Household Support Fund

The Household Support Fund will provide ongoing support until 31 March 2026. Its core objective is to assist households in need, particularly with essential items like food and energy. The funding is particularly focused on families eligible for benefit-related free school meals.

Support for Families and Local Communities

  • Over 16,600 households with children in Derby will receive food vouchers.
  • These vouchers are expected to provide 1,070,000 meals during school term breaks between April 2025 and March 2026.
  • Voucher amounts vary: £50 for single adult households, £75 for multiple adult households, and £125 for households with children under 19.

The winter online food voucher application is currently open. It will remain accessible until either March 2026 or until the allocated £420,000 funding is exhausted.

Community Support Initiatives

Derby City Council is partnering with various community organizations to facilitate applications for vouchers. Details about the Warm Welcome Hubs will be available soon via Community Action Derby. These hubs will offer additional support services.

  • Access to hot meals
  • Assistance in reducing energy costs
  • Community-led cost of living support

In the summer of 2025, these hubs saw over 26,400 adult visits and more than 3,400 visits from children.

Energy Cost Support

The fund also offers help with energy costs, providing PayPoint energy vouchers. Applications will be accepted from September 2025 through March 2026, or until the available £195,000 funding is depleted. This support is aimed at vulnerable households experiencing financial crisis.
