India Strongly Rebukes Pakistan at UNSC Asserting Jammu Kashmir and Ladakh as Integral Parts of the Nation

India has strongly rebuked Pakistan’s attempts to address the Jammu and Kashmir issue during a United Nations Security Council (UNSC) debate. The Indian government has reiterated that Jammu and Kashmir, along with Ladakh, are integral parts of India. This assertion was made by India’s Permanent Representative to the UN, Ambassador Harish P.

Key Points from India’s Statement at UNSC

During the UNSC Open Debate on ‘Leadership for Peace,’ Ambassador Harish P highlighted India’s firm stance against Pakistan’s obsessive reference to Jammu and Kashmir. He emphasized the following points:

  • Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh are “integral and inalienable parts” of India.
  • Pakistan’s behavior demonstrates its focus on harming India and its people.
  • A member of the UNSC should not pursue a divisive agenda while fulfilling its responsibilities.

Background of Tensions Between India and Pakistan

The Indian envoy criticized Pakistan for violating the spirit of the Indus Waters Treaty, signed 65 years ago. He pointed out that Pakistan has waged three wars and sponsored numerous terrorist attacks against India. Over the past four decades, tens of thousands of Indian lives have been lost due to Pakistan-sponsored terrorism.

Recent Incidents Highlighting Terrorism

Ambassador Harish P referred to a devastating incident in April 2025, which involved a terror attack in Pahalgam that resulted in the targeted killings of 26 civilians by terrorists linked to Pakistan. He announced that, in light of such acts, India has decided to suspend the Treaty until Pakistan ends its support for terrorism.

Criticism of Pakistan’s Domestic Policies

India has also criticized Pakistan for its internal affairs, particularly the jailing of former Prime Minister Imran Khan. The Indian representative highlighted how Pakistan has allowed its military to execute a “constitutional coup” through the controversial 27th amendment, granting lifetime immunity to its Chief of Defence Forces, Asim Munir.

  • Imran Khan’s imprisonment raises concerns about democracy in Pakistan.
  • Political parties face bans, raising questions about governance.
  • Military influence undermines the democratic process.

India’s Commitment to Countering Terrorism

Ambassador Harish P concluded by affirming India’s resolve to combat Pakistan-sponsored terrorism. He reiterated that India remains steadfast in its commitment to countering all forms of terrorism emanating from Pakistan.

This exchange at the UNSC underscores the ongoing tensions between India and Pakistan, particularly over issues relating to Jammu and Kashmir, while reaffirming India’s position on its territorial integrity.
