Stephon Castle, a prominent guard for the San Antonio Spurs, is making headlines not just on the basketball court, but also in the soccer world. At the age of 21, Castle has become a part-owner of two new soccer franchises in Connecticut, significantly contributing to the local sports landscape.
Stephon Castle’s New Venture in Connecticut Soccer
Castle is now involved with the Connecticut Sports Group (CSG), the organization that owns CT United FC and a forthcoming women’s professional team. CT United FC will compete in the MLS Next Pro league starting next year, while the women’s team is expected to join the WPSL Pro league by 2028.

Motivation Behind the Investment
Having played just a season at the University of Connecticut before joining the NBA, Castle expressed his desire to give back to the state that nurtured his athletic career. He stated, “It was the right choice just to start at my age and to also give back to the state of Connecticut for what they’ve done for me.”
He noted that his involvement will not only help establish a strong soccer community but also pave the way for youth talent. “When a young kid sees Stephon connected to CT United, they see someone relatable who made it to the top and chose to uplift future generations. That’s powerful,” said André Swanston, a fellow owner of CT United FC.
Castle’s Performance with the Spurs
Castle is also making improvements on the basketball court. He was named the 2025 NBA Rookie of the Year and is currently averaging 18.1 points and 7.3 assists per game. Recently, he led the Spurs in a victory over the Los Angeles Lakers with an impressive performance of 30 points, 10 rebounds, and 6 assists.
As the Spurs prepare for the NBA Cup semifinals against the Oklahoma City Thunder, Castle emphasized the significance of high-stakes games. He stated, “It shows our seriousness as well. We want to win every game, but the high-stakes games mean a little more to us.”
